Snowshoes and Brews

Yesterday was a great day.

It started with a snowshoeing trek with Steve, Ashley, and Will and ended with a trip to June Lake Brewery.

Our goal was to find enough snow to use our snowshoes. We found success up at Virginia Lakes (approx. 9,800 feet). The turnoff for Virginia Lakes is located on highway 395 at the top of Conway Pass (between Lee Vining and Bridgeport). This winter you can drive almost all the way to Big Virginia Lake when most winters the road is closed off close to 395. We only had to hike about a half mile from our car to get to Big Virginia and then we decided to hike across the lake and over the saddle to get to Red Lake.

After our jaunt in the snow, we drove down to the quaint town of June Lake to visit their brewery. June Lake Brewery is fairly new but already has a large fan base. The atmosphere is relaxed just like the rest of the friendly mountain town. Walking into the brewery you will see rustic wooden tables and stools, a variety of flannel shirts, and mountain dogs laying under tables while their owners sit and enjoy good conversation and tasty micro brews.

Now, along with great beer, you can also have delicious Hawaiian style cuisine from the Ohanas 395 food truck parked in the brewery parking lot. I had the Huli Huli chicken tacos with the medium salsa. The tacos were sweet and tangy with the right amount of spice.
