Rush Creek Trail Head

Starting out. June Lake Loop below.
On Saturday, Steve and his friend, Morgan, and I set out for a hike up Rush Creek trail. The trail head is located near Silver Lake on the June Lake Loop. The June Lake Loop is usually closed during the winter, however, this year has been so dry that it has re-opened. The beginning of the trail takes you behind the Silver Lake Resort.

This hike is basically all uphill offering amazing views of the June Lake Loop, Mono Craters, Mono Lake, and more! We hiked up to Gem Lake which was about 7 miles round trip. In about 3.5 miles you climb about 2,000 feet.

As we continued to climb, the views continued to amaze.

Gaining elevation, we also gained some snow cover on the trail.

About 2 miles in you will come to a sign that points you in the direction of Clark Lake and Gem Lake. We went straight past Agnew Lake to Gem Lake. A left turn would take you to Clark Lake, Agnew Pass and the popular, Thousand Island Lake.

Hailey and her frequent "cool down" stops.
After hiking around Agnew Lake we decided to go straight and check out the Southern California Edison Rush Creek Power Plant. After making it to the power plant we back tracked to return to the Gem Lake trail.

This is the view above Agnew Lake from the Southern California Edison Power Plant. You can see the trail that will take you to Clark Lake on the right.

We took a little snack/photography break at Gem Lake.

The way down was a bit more difficult than the way up. My mantra: Don't look down!

Ok, so I guess my mantra was more like, "Don't look down and do the butt scoot."

The butt scoot never fails me.
Almost back to the car.
And of course a hike in June is not complete without a trip to the June Lake Brewery afterwards...
Hailey, the brewery dog, along with my Huli Huli chicken tacos from Ohanas 395 and an Alpers Trout Pale Ale.
