Exploring the Bodie Hills

Last weekend, Will and I took a quad ride through the Bodie Hills. We started from our house and went over to Aurora Canyon Road and eventually took a left onto Masonic Road. Masonic Road takes you past Chemung Mine and hits highway 395. When we got to 395, we road down the Bridgeport Reservoir shore back to our house. The trip was about 30 miles.

After driving up Aurora for few miles we came to what is known as "Four Corners". We turned left onto Masonic Road there.

After turning left at Four Corners we had this view of the Sawtooths.

We came to a fork and went left to explore a bit and then headed back to the right.
We had an audience of mule deer at one point.

Back on Masonic Road, on our way to Chemung Mine.
We went left to Bridgeport and Chemung Mine but we could have gone right to Sweetwater which takes you to Masonic Mine.

Chemung Mine
Chemung Mine was founded in the early 1900's and continued to operate until the late 1930's.

Bluebirds perched on one of the structures.
After exploring Chemung mine for a bit we headed down Masonic to Bridgeport Reservoir. We saw a bald eagle on the shore and some Canadian geese.

Can you spot the bald eagle in flight?
Bridgeport Reservoir is between a half and a third of it's normal capacity.
