Horse Creek Hike

"Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer. Camp out among the grasses and gentians of glacial meadows, in craggy garden nooks full of nature's darlings. Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature's sources never fail."
~ John Muir

A few weeks ago I went on a hike up Horse Creek Trail out of Twin Lakes in Bridgeport with my brother-in-law, Steve, and his dog Hailey. The leaves were just beginning to shift from bright green to shades of yellow and orange.

I would say this hike is difficult. In about 4.5 miles we climbed over 2,000 feet. The trail starts off with uphill switch backs for a couple of miles and for the majority of the hike you are ascending up a canyon. For the entirety of the hike we were alongside a creek and we captured beautiful views of waterfalls along the way.

Here is the view after climbing the switchbacks...

Can you spot the falls?
We continued on from there and eventually we came to a point where the trail was covered by boulders and we scrambled over them.

Once we got passed the boulders we continued up to these spectacular views...

We turned around to head back down at about 4.5 miles in. However you can continue on to climb Matterhorn peak. I hope to go back next summer to do that.
